Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the Southern Oregon University Special Education Program. We believe the program offers you breadth and depth of preparation, a strong knowledge base, with extensive field-based application that produces highly qualified special educators.
The field of special education is an exciting, rapidly growing profession, and the need for trained professionals to serve those with disabilities is greater than ever. Of course, the demands made on those in the profession are greater than ever as well. We feel our candidates are among the best prepared to meet those demands.
If you are interested in becoming a special educator, we welcome your application to our program. Contact us if we can be of service as you prepare your application. Your academic record, test scores, the quality of your essays, experience with children with exceptionalities, and your recommendations will be major factors in the selection process. In addition, you will be invited to campus for an interview with program faculty and practicing special educators.
The application deadline for the Special Education Program is typically in early January of the year you would begin the program. The major considerations in meeting the application deadline are having your entrance test scores reported to us on time, and completion of prerequisite course work. These should be given immediate attention if you plan to apply for the upcoming year.
