Southern Oregon University

(SOTELD) Grant

GRANT MAY BE EXTENDED ONE MORE YEAR - APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED!!

We are hopeful that we will have one more year (2013-14) to fund this important program! We encourage current MAT, Elementary Ed licensure, and in-service teachers to apply. We hope to know if we receive the extension by mid-May.

The SOTELD Project was funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA) as part of a National Professional Development Program.  The program provides professional development activities intended to improve instruction for students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and assists education personnel working with such children to meet high professional standards.

OBJECTIVES

The SOTELD Project is designed to:

  • Increase the pool of highly qualified bilingual and English-speaking teachers prepared to serve ELL students.
  • Increase the skills of teachers already serving ELL students in the high-need areas of Special Education, Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, and English Language Development.

BENEFITS

-- For pre-service teachers, the SOTELD Grant will fund complete tuition for the ESOL-Bilingual Endorsement Program, along with $300 stipend for books, and reimbuse the fees for the PRAXIS test and TSCP fees to add endorsement to teaching license.

--For inservice secondary teachers, bilingual teachers, and Master of Arts or Science in Education (MA or MS) candidates holding a valid Oregon secondary teaching license,  the SOTELD Grant will fund complete tuition for the ESOL-Bilingual Endorsement Program, along with $300 stipend for books, and reimbuse the fees for the PRAXIS test and TSCP fees to add endorsement to teaching license.

ELIGIBILITY

--All applicants must demonstrate a high level of motivation and commitment to serve English Language Learners in the southern Oregon tri-county area.

--Applicants who are bilingual, are planning to teach or are teaching in high-need secondary content areas, including those who already have been admitted to the SOU ESOL-Bilingual Endorsement Program, are strongly encouraged to apply.
