Reading Specialist (Endorsement) Program
Literacy Education Course of Study
Courses in Six Thematic Areas
- Literacy Foundations & Language Development
- LIteracy Strategies & Methods
- Literacy for Diverse Learners
- Assessment
- Literature
- Leadership in Reading Program
Reading Specialist Program Leading to a Reading Endorsement
- Accessible to teachers throughout the state using distance education modes (e.g.,online)
- 24 Graduate-level credit hours including practica and additional electives
- Classroom assignments and/or practica can be done in teachers' schools or communities where the teachers live & work
- Expert faculty teaching courses from multiple universities in the state
- Teachers select any of the universities as their "home" institution
- Courses may apply toward a master's degree with advisor's approval
- Designed to meet the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission's (TSPC) requirements for the Reading Endorsement
Reading/Literacy Program for Classroom Teachers
- Accessible to teachers throughout the state using distance education modes (e.g., online)
- 12 graduate-level credit hours including classroom application
- Classroom assignments and/or practica can be done in teachers' schools or communities where the teachers live and work
- Two core 3-credit courses plus 6 additional credits in teacher's areas of interest/need
- Expert faculty teaching courses from multiple universities in the state
- Teachers select any of the universities as their "home" institution
- Courses may apply toward a master's degree with advisor's approval
- Certificate of competency awarded
