Roni Adams received her B.A. in English in 1969 and teaching credential in 1970 from Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo. She has a Master's degree in English and Psychology from Southern Oregon University and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, specializing in Teaching and Learning, from University of California, Santa Barbara.
Roni has been an educator since 1970, first as a teacher of high school English, then as an elementary teacher in grades K-5. She acted as head teacher/administrator of the Open Classroom Alternative Program in Ventura, California, for over a decade. She was a founder of Ventura Charter School of Arts and Global Education, a progressive public K-8 charter school, and former chair of its Board of Directors. Her 42 years of experience in educational research and practice help inform and guide the charter school's philosophy, program, and policies. She has also worked as adjunct faculty for Antioch University in Santa Barbara prior to becoming a full-time professor of teacher education at Southern Oregon University.
In her current position, she teaches Multicultural Education, Diversity, Social Studies Methods, and Human Relations courses. She is an advocate of progressive education, reflective practice, social justice, and school reform.
