Welcome to the ESOL/Bilingual Endorsement web site!
ESOL and ESOL/Bilingual endorsed teachers are in great demand in Oregon schools and throughout the nation. This is especially important with the increased number of students who bring a non-English language background to school. You do not have to be proficient in Spanish (or another second language) in order to qualify for this endorsement. In fact, the majority of the teachers who earn this endorsement are monolingual English speakers. However, we are highly motivated to recruit and support native and native-like speakers of Spanish, as well as Native Americans, and other under-represented ethnic groups. Regardless of your language background, the ESOL/Bilingual Endorsement Program will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be successful in K-12 bilingual and/or ESOL program settings.
The School of Education at Southern Oregon University (SOU) offers the ESOL and the ESOL/Bilingual Endorsements as an add-on program or as an area of specialization within a Master’s of Education degree program or Continuing Teaching License program. Regardless of where you are in your career path, this endorsement can be adapted to meet your individual needs.
I hope that you will find all of the information you need about the ESOL/Bilingual Endorsement Program at this web site. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the ESOL/Bilingual Program Coordinator, Dr. Gerald McCain (552-6934).
