Let your imagination take you to the animal kingdom as you experiment with a variety of drawing and painting media, including colored pencils, ink, and pastels. Come learn to draw your favorite animal while having fun.

SOU's Art Department offers an intensive ceramics program for young people. Individual instruction lets you develop at your own pace. Learn wheel, hand-building, and glaze techniques, then fire your work using low-fire electric stoneware or raku processes.

Colorful Comics, Cartoons, and Manga

Color your world! Come use professional markers, watercolors, and colored pencils to learn new ways to color and shade your favorite characters. You will use your own designs and images, whether it's Manga or other forms of cartooning, and learn ways to make them come alive.

Create the Costume

Learn how to proportion, shade, and use other essential art fundamentals to create costume and fashion drawings for the runway or for your favorite characters such as Harry Potter, Jessica Alba, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Corbin Bleu. You are bound to build your drawing skills, stretch your imagination, and boost your creativity.

Claymation/Animation

Lights, camera, action! Explore the world of animation, from zoetropes and flipbooks to object animation and claymation. With modeling clay, create characters like Wallace and Gromit and play with settings for your stories. You will be using “stop action” camera animation, while also learning basic camera techniques and composition to understand the story.

Tech Week

Technology "rocks" your everyday world, from podcasts and XBOX 360s to the latest Nike shoes and the RFID in your cereal box. Come explore this exciting field and learn to navigate your technical world. Blend art and entertainment with technology by using multimedia programs to create eye- and ear-catching photos, audio, and videos. Map your location from space and "geocache" your terrestrial coordinates around SOU's campus using a GPS (Global Positioning System) as your guide.

Conservatory for Young Theatre Artists,
Camelot Theatre Company (CTC)

This exciting camp is designed to introduce the young artist to improvisation, basic vocal and acting techniques, dance, and Shakespeare. Much Ado About Shakespeare

Come bring the written word to life through the works of the world's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. Media on the Move: Journalism Workshop

Calling all aspiring journalists! Learn the fundamentals of crafting news and feature stories, headline-writing, picture-taking, and editing, as well as page design and layout techniques. You will be introduced to Photoshop and InDesign software and will produce short feature stories on your classmates, in addition to participating in a campus feature hunt to learn proper writing techniques, ethics, electronic image-editing, and page layout.

You will also visit a local veterinary clinic to spend "a day in the life" of a veterinarian.
