ART
Discovering Art
“Got Artistic Talent?” Build your art skills by drawing and using a variety of mediums. Experience art indoors and outdoors and challenge your imagination as you learn new ways to express your artistic talents. Instructor: Sra. Claudia Michelli has a BA in Fine Arts, Masters of Arts in Teaching and is an artist with over twenty years teaching experience.
Making Mosaics
"Got Design Ideas?" Come explore the world of Mosaics. In this hands-on class you will create a mosaic mirror and a mosaic stepping stone to take home. You will be using old tiles, glass and plates to create something entirely new. Instructor: Sra. Shannon Kuriyama has been a dual-language teacher at Talent Elementary for four years. She has a MAT and a Bilingual ESOL endorsement.
CREATIVE WRITING/ LITERATURE
Poetry
"Got Something to Say?” Come learn how to say it in a poem. Read and listen to the work of Latino poets and hear how they express their lives through their poetry. Write your own poems to express your life, using a variety of poetic forms. Keep your writing skills tuned up and have a good time doing it! Instructor: Sra. Mary Donnelly has been working in schools with the Latino community for 30 years and has developed curriculum for all grades. She has taught ESL, SSL, and bilingual education. She currently works in the Medford School District.
Write On!
"Got Something More to Say?” Come learn how to write your Life Story, past, present and future. This class will set you free to write from your heart. Instructor: Sra. Mary Donnelly has been working in schools with the Latino community for 30 years and has developed curriculum for all grades. She has taught ESL, SSL, and bilingual education. She currently works in the Medford School District.

Digital/Video Production
"Got Video?" Come learn how to take digital pictures and make a video. You will learn all the filmmaking elements and tricks of the trade while using the latest and greatest technologies. Instructor: Sr. Martin Vavra is a middle school teacher at Talent Middle School and has a video production company.
Exploring Photography
“Got Pictures to take?” Snap to it as you explore digital photography and learn how to take great pictures and manipulate them. Learn all about the different types of cameras, equipment and accessories and the variety of careers in photography. Instructor: Sr. Orville Hector is a local professional photographer with a studio on Ashland’s plaza and is the photo editor/photographer for the Ashland Daily Tidings.

Latin American Geography
"Got Places to Go?” Come explore Latin America and become a Geography Map Master. Become an expert in the names and locations of Latin American countries and their capitals. Explore all the fascinating regions of these beautiful countries by using maps, games, computers and the internet. Instructor: Sr. Andy Gever is currently an EII Instructional Assistant at Phoenix High School and has 13 year of educational experience working with ESL students.
Latino Heroes
"Got a Hero? Come learn all about Latino Heroes, past & present. Be inspired by strong Hispanic leaders who made positive changes and a difference in our society. Learn about Xicotencatl Axayacatl, Rogoberta Menchu Tum, Las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo and others. Find out if Pancho Villa was a hero or outlaw. Instructor: Sra. Rose Marie Montán has been a teacher with the dual-language program for the last 16 years. She is a graduate of Loyola-Marymount University and is a great advocate for Latino youth.

Consumer Math
"Got Money?" Come learn how to budget, save and plan for special events and see what it’s like to live in the real world. Learn to make ends meet with the circumstances you are given—salary, job and bills to pay. Learn the practical skills of check writing, keeping a check register and balancing a checkbook. Learn about interest rates, monthly payments, and real finance charges. Instructor: Sra. Julie Garcia is a teacher and has two bachelors of science degrees and a master’s degree from Southern Oregon University. She has worked with Latino-Hispanic youth in the Rogue Valley for the over 10 years. .
Forensic Science
“Got Forensics?” Learn the origins of crime scene investigation and explore the newest tools in crime scene science. Become a forensic scientist as you analyze the evidence of a fictional crime scene. Fine tune your powers of observation, reconstruct a crime scene, collect clues and research eye witness statements to solve a variety of crimes. Instructor: Sra. Shama Stewart has a Master’s degree in education/educational psychology. She has been a teacher for over 12 years.
Nursing
“Got a Fever?” Come experience the rewards and challenges of nursing while you participate in various hands-on activities with simulations based on real patient care experiences. You are bound to come away with a better understanding of the skills needed to be a nurse. Instructors: A team of OHSU Ashland Nursing faculty and Staff.
MUSIC/DANCE/DRAMA
Drama
"Got Drama?” Come explore acting. You will learn about theater, improvisation and the art of acting. Bring your creativity and desire to perform. Participate in acting games and exercises, physical games and techniques. Instructor: Sr. Juan Rivera Lebron is an actor with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for five seasons and has a bachelors in fine arts from Carnegie Mellon University. .
Exploring Music
"Got Music?" Come explore your hidden musical abilities. Take this ultimate music challenge and learn to read, write and play music in one week. Each day gets better and better and by the end of the week you will be playing along easily with a CD accompaniment toe tappin’ fun! Instructor: Sra. Marianne Robison teaches music at Talent Middle School and coordinator of American Band College at Southern Oregon University.
Salsa Dancing
"Got Rhythm?" Come try salsa dancing as you move across the floor to the music. Learn techniques for the proper footwork, hip movement and arm styling and have a fun time learning about the origin of the dance.
