The Creative Thing

Due near the end of the term

This is a very open-ended assignment.  Use the economic understanding you’ve acquired in this course as inspiration for the production of a creative thing.

The creative thing may take any of a number of forms.  It might be a performance: song, dance, skit, or rap.  It might be a poem, haiku, or limerick.  It might be a drawing, painting, sculpture, video, or something edible.  It might be none of those.  (No matter what form it takes, the creative thing should be inoffensive and appropriate for presentation in a classroom.)

The creative thing should be inspired by some concepts or understandings gleaned from this course.  It might be stimulated by one of the theories we’ve examined, or an application tied to current economic issues or events.  It does not need to have explicit economic content.

You will have an opportunity to present and explain your creative thing to the whole class.  Plan to spend a maximum of about five minutes for this presentation.

In addition, your creative thing must be accompanied by a brief paper (approximately one typed page) containing an explanation of what you’ve created and its relationship to some concepts from the course; this will be turned in.

Evaluation will be based on care in the design and construction of your creative thing, evidence of thought and effort, and originality.
