Prospective Students
Technology Standards
To participate in online courses students will need to meet the following requirements:
- Reliable access to the Internet
- Students are required to use their SOU email account
- Reliable computer that has a minimum of:
- Windows 98 or higher or for MAC OS 8.6
- Internet Explorer 5.5 service pack 2 or higher
- Modem 56 kbps or higher speed (be prepared for delays whien using dial-up connection)
- CD Rom
- Sound card with speakers or headphones
- Media Players - RealTime & QuickTime are recommended
- Microsoft Office 2000 or XP applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Students will also find that they are more comfortable in the online environment if they possess basic computer skills:
- File management - saving files & locating them easily
- Downloading files from email or the internet
- Sending emails with attachments
- Navigating on the Internet
- Using search engines
- Able to use multiple windows
