Academic Advising is provided by a faculty advisor from your major department.
Blackboard (Bb) is the course management system we use to deliver online courses. Detemine your user name , your password will be your date of birth (ddmmyy). After you've logged in to Blackboard, the courses you are registered in are located on the right side. Click the name of the course you'd like to enter.
Bookstore allows students the option of ordering their books online from their website or over the phone. Students in the online courses do not have to pay the $5 handling fee. Be sure to order your book well in advance of class starting!
Catalog provides students with course descriptions, admission information, and information on institutional policies.
CLEP testing allows student to receive credit for coursework in subjects they already are knowledgeable in. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a national exam program that allows you to challenge lower division coursework for credit. You can save time and money by testing out of classes.
Disabled Student Services provides accommodations for online students with documented disabilities. If you have a documented disability and desire services, it is important that they contact the office asap to begin arrangements.
Financial Aid is available for online students. Be sure to complete the FAFSA and identify SOU as a school you plan to attend. As an SOU students, if you need to take a course from a community college, you can co-enroll and receive aid for the combined credits, as long as the majority of credits taken each term are at SOU.
Groupwise (Email) is the email provider for all students. Enrolled students automatically receive an email account. Students are required to use Groupwise in their online classes. The system is reliable and has large capacity, so students can be assured that their mailbox will not fill-up as can happen in free web-based accounts.
Library services are available for online students through our extensive collection of electronic journals. Students can also receive journal articles electronically through our Interlibrary Loan system. Librarians that are content area specialists are also available to assist students with their research work.
Online Writing Lab provides online & on-campus students the option of working with a writing tutor through email.
Prior Learning Experience allows adult students the opportunity to gain college credit based on life experiences and prior education. Through a partnership with Eastern Oregon University, SOU Business Degree Completion Program students can document college-level mastery of curriculum by creating learning essays, which are merged into a final product called a portfolio. Portfolio essays are submitted and evaluated by Eastern faculty to determine if credit can be granted. A student can earn up to 46 credits with the portfolio process.
Student Information Services (SIS) is a comprehensive website where students can register for courses, check their account balances, make payments, display grades, and order transcripts.
