University Studies serves SOU's vision as a public liberal university by expanding students’ intellectual horizons and helping them comprehend a diverse and changing world. Working alongside the majors, University Studies stresses cognitive skills and humane perspectives that prepare students to lead productive, ethical, globally conscious, and socially responsible lives.
- Foundational strands, incorporated throughout the University’s curriculum, stress effective communication, critical thinking, information literacy, and quantitative reasoning.
- Exploration strands incorporate breadth of knowledge of the aesthetic, social, and scientific world.
- Integration strands help students deepen, apply, and transfer knowledge.
