Computer Science

Masters Program

The graduate program in computer science prepares students for careers in industry and for further academic studies. We encourage and welcome students with backgrounds in other disciplines. With a variety of practical courses, we help students tailor the program to their interests. It is possible to graduate in one year, although many students take longer.

Graduate assistantships that provide tuition and stipends enable students to teach and participate in faculty research. We have a diverse faculty that specializes in such areas as:

  • Computer security
  • Databases
  • Data mining
  • Distributed systems
  • Forensics
  • GIS
  • Graphics
  • Game programming
  • Internet applications
  • Natural language processing
  • Network engineering

Graduate Admission Requirements

In order to be admitted to the program, you must meet the University admission criteria and then be approved by the department for admission. Applications are reviewed on an on-going basis. (See the Graduate Studies section of the University catalog for admission policies.) The department evaluates applications on the basis of:

  • Your undergraduate preparation in computer science
  • Your undergraduate GPA
  • GRE general test scores
  • A statement of objectives
  • Three letters of recommendation

There are computer science prerequisites, but students without the prescribed coursework can still be admitted as a post-baccalaureate. These students are guaranteed full admittance to the graduate program after they successfully satisfy the prerequisites. Please select appropriate background to find out specific requirements and contact our graduate program coordinator for details.
