"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in." - Marjorie Moore

Make A Difference Day
Every October, SOU students participate in Make a Difference Day, the largest day-of-service program in the country. The group works with non-profits and government agencies in the Ashland-Medford community to create a positive change in the local community.
Visit the national Make a Difference Day website to learn what others are doing in their communities.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
On the third Saturday in January, the Civic Engagement Program kicks off MLK Day weekend by hosting a service event to promote King's vision of a beloved community - one where all are able to work together toward a world without injustice. Students typically use this day to promote education, both in the community through volunteer work, and in themselves through participation in skill-building seminars.

Arbor Day Celebration & Campus Beautification
In partnership with SOU Landscape Services, we hosted SOU's 1st Annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 9, 2014. There were presentations, live music, giveaways, and over 6000 new plants were planted!
Over 200 SOU students and faculty, and Ashland school children joined us in planting some greenery, making our campus an even more beautiful place, and celebrating Arbor Day.
