3 creditsFocuses on the role of religion in human experience and awareness of its place in our culture.
4 creditsA study of representative great films whose techniques have shaped the form as we know it today. The course typically covers American and European silent films and films from the 1930s and 1940s.
4 creditsThe study of popular film genres such as the western, the musical, the thriller, science fiction, the detective story, the epic, and comedy of silent films. Emphasis is on cultural and artistic value, characteristics of each form, and variations within forms.
4 creditsA study of the works of selected international film directors such as Hitchcock, Eisenstein, Kurosawa, Bergman, Wells, Altman, Fellini, and Bunuel whose contributions to cinematic art have been significant.
Upper Division Courses
34 creditsStudy of selected topics in French cinema, focusing on insights into French culture as seen through film. Recent topics include: Feminine Images in French Film, French Film of the '80s, and French Film and Society. May be repeated for credit when topic changes. Prerequisite: Fr 203 or consent of the instructor. (Cross listed with Fr 350.)
