Southern Oregon University offers curricula that prepare students for entrance into medical and dental schools. A bachelor's degree is required for admission to most of these schools. Professional schools accept bachelor's degrees in any regular academic discipline; however, the majority of students major in biology or chemistry.Advisors for medicine are Thomas Keevil (chemistry) and Kathleen Page (biology). Chris Oswald (biology) and Thomas Keevil (chemistry) are advisors for dentistry.
The first-year courses are the same for the medicine and dentistry preprofessional programs.

Courses in the second, third, and fourth years should be planned in consultation with the appropriate advisor. Courses commonly required by medical schools include organic chemistry, physics, calculus, and psychology. Highly recommended electives include genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and Spanish. Students must complete the University general education requirements and the requirements for a major.
