4 creditsOffers a survey of the material and intellectual culture that generated, and was in turn shaped by, Shakespeare and his plays, and an introduction to diverse ways of studying and understanding this cultural production. Employs primary materials (written, visual, and aural), performances, guest lecturers, and artists to explore such topics as Elizabethan and Jacobean art, architecture, music and dance; political and religious institutions; socioeconomic transformations; science and medicine; travel and discovery; professional theatre companies; and Shakespeare's life and work.
