Acting Dean Josie WilsonDr. Josie Wilson is the Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

She is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience in the Psychology Department at Southern Oregon University. She taught child development and counseling, was the Coordinator of the Mental Health Counseling program for three years and Chair of the department for three years. Josie was a Fulbright Scholar in 1999-2000 and taught in Mexico at the University of Guanajuato, School of Psychology. She has continued collaborating with her Mexican colleagues and helped develop four summer courses on cultural competence for health professionals. In 2004 she became Dean of the School of Social Sciences.

As a licensed practitioner in Oregon and New York, she has worked with clients from 3 to 80 years old, including veterans, couples, adults abused as children, and developmentally delayed children.

Josie has a broad academic background, beginning as a chemistry major and eventually earning a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin. She was an elementary teacher for several years before returning to school for a M.A. in counseling from Western Michigan University and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University.

Dr. Wilson enjoys the outdoor life that Ashland provides, frequently walking with her dog in the watershed. She and her family, husband Michael Belsky and daughter Paulina, take pleasure in traveling throughout the world, especially to places with great snorkeling, interesting cultures, and different foods.

Acting Dean Josie WilsonWelcome to Southern Oregon University. I am the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and it is my distinct honor to join you in your educational pursuits.

I bring more than 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in several different educational settings, including the university, community college, and middle school levels. I earned a Doctor of Education in Music Education with a minor in Higher Education Administration from University of the Pacific, a Masters of Arts in Music Education from CSU Sacramento, and Bachelors of Music from the University of Pacific.

As a saxophonist, I have been fortunate to play with some incredible musicians, including The Four Tops, The Temptations, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Motown’s Funk Brothers, Bobby Shew, Maynard Ferguson, Will Kennedy (of the Yellow Jackets), Stan Mark, Joe Williams, Mel Torme and Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra. I toured China with the SOU Saxophone Orchestra in the fall of 2007, and studied saxophone at the Paris Conservatory of Music in March 2008.
