ONLINE BA with option in Accounting
You can now earn a degree in Business Administration with an option in accounting or complete a post-baccalaureate certificate in accounting completely online! The online accounting courses are taught by regular faculty who are all CPAs and have significant experience in public, private, and industry accounting.
Students may select from one of two tracks:
Track I: Public Accounting (36 credits)
Track I is for students interested in careers in any area of accounting -- public, private, or governmental.
Required Courses: (24 hours required)
- Intermediate Accounting I, II (BA 351, 352, 4 credits each)
- Introduction to Taxation (BA 453, 4 credits)
- Cost and Management Accounting (BA 451, 4 credits)
- Accounting Information Systems (BA 454, 4 credits)
- Auditing I (BA 455, 4 credits)
Elective Courses: (12 hours required)
- Intermediate Accounting III (BA 353, 4 credits)
- Auditing II (BA 456, 4 credits)
- Advanced Taxation (BA 457, 4 credits)
- CPA Review (BA 465A & B, 4 credits)
- Advanced Accounting Topics I (BA 458, 4 credits)
- Advanced Accounting Topics II (BA 459, 4 credits)
- Nonprofit Accounting and Financial Management (BA 460, 4 credits)
- Corporate Law (BA 478, 4 credits)
Oregon requires 225 credit hours for CPA licensing. It is recommended that students seeking the CPA take as many of the above classes as they can in preparation.
Track II: Management Accounting (24 credits)
Track II is for students interested in accounting from a management and systems perspective. Students who would like to become CPAs (Certified Public Accountants) should see Track I.
Required Courses (16 hours required):
- Intermediate Accounting I, II (BA 351, 352, 4 credits each)
- Cost and Management Accounting (BA 451, 4 credits)
- Accounting Information Systems (BA 454, 4 credits)
Elective Courses (8 hours required):
- Financial Reporting and Analysis III (BA 353, 4 credits)
- Introduction to Taxation (BA 453, 4 credits)
- Advanced Business Application of Databases (BA 384, 4 credits)
- Business Information Systems Design (BA 484, 4 credits)
- Nonprofit Accounting and Financial Management (BA 460, 4 credits)
- Advanced Management Information Systems (BA 497, 4 credits)
Note that BA324 (Business Communication) can be taken in lieu of BA385 (for accounting majors only) or as an elective.
Students working toward the accounting option should choose a faculty advisor from the accounting area for assistance with program planning.
