Readings

Readings for this seminar are designed to support online and in-class activities. Required readings are:

  • Chapters 1 and 2 of The Leadership Challenge (you will probably want to read more!)
  • Chapter 2 of Present Yourself! (handout provided in class) Online Discussion

A discussion forum will be posted online every other Monday in the course Bb site. Participants must post a substantive response within that week. During the following week, they will be required to review the previous week's postings and reply thoughtfully to at least two. Postings will be graded on the depth of understanding revealed, clarity of expression, and mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.). A sample rubric will be provided for your reference.

Leadership Presentation

Each participant will make a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation on leadership at the concluding seminar session on December 1. Presentations will focus on:

  • The three characteristics of leaders that are most important to you,
  • A leader that you respect and the leadership traits he/she demonstrates, or
  • Another leadership-related topic approved by the instructor.

Presentations will be peer-reviewed and submitted to the instructor for grading. Presentations will be assessed for content, clarity, design, and mechanics.

Case Study

You will be asked to review a case study in leadership based on The Leadership Challenge. After reviewing the case, you will draft a two-page essay as assigned. Essays will be evaluated on content, clarity, and mechanics based on the guidelines provided.

Evaluation

Grading for the seminar will be based on participation in online and in-class discussions, the presentation assignment, and the case study. Grades will be weighted as follows:

Discussion 40%
Presentation 30%
Case Study 30%
