Internships and Practica

Search the Information Bank

Congratulations on deciding to seek an internship. In today's competitive job market, internships can open doors for you into the working world, teach you about an industry, or even find you a future employer.

The organizations listed in this data base have completed the SOU School of Business Host Organization Internship application and many have identified potential internship and practicum activities. Most of the them are located in southern Oregon, although you will find listings for international internships as well. The list is updated with new opportunities on an ongoing basis, so students are encouraged to check this information bank frequently for additional listings. Be sure to review all of the information on this page: all students must comply with the procedures spelled out below in order to receive internship credit.

How to Search the Information Bank

There are seven categories to help you narrow your search. You can make your search as broad as simply asking for all internships anywhere or target your search more specifically by filtering the results according to your interests. Each of the search categories has a drop-down menu that displays your choices. To obtain more "hits," re-set some of your filters to "All." You may search by any or all of the following categories:

  • City (Ashland, Medford, Bandon, etc.)
  • Organization Type (For Profit, Nonprofit, Government)
  • Industry Classification (Banking, Construction, Direct Sales, etc.)
  • Available Term (Winter, Spring, etc.)
  • Compensation (Paid or Unpaid)
  • Hours per Week (0-10, 10-15, Flexible, etc.)
  • Area Options (Accounting, Hospitality, Management, etc.)
How To Pursue Specific Internships
  1. Select 3-4 listings from this information bank that are of the greatest interest to you.
  2. Make an appointment to meet with the School of Business Internship/Practicum Coordinator, Meredith Reynolds, CE 115, or with the Coordinator of your Certificate Program.
  3. Meet with the Coordinator and bring the specifics of the internships with you. At this meeting, the Coordinator will verify your qualifications for the internships selected and inform you of any unique aspects of the internship(s). You will also discuss the required practicum objectives, weekly reports and final paper.
  4. After your meeting, the Coordinator will contact the organization and verify the internship opportunity.
  5. Following verification of the internship opportunity, the Coordinator will provide you with the name and phone number of the contact person at the organization.
  6. You will be responsible for contacting the contact person directly and arranging an appointment to discuss the specifics of the internship. Prior to making this contact, you should be prepared to:
    1. Specify dates and times that you are available for an initial meeting with the contact;
    2. Determine the days and hours you are available to work during the term; and
    3. Provide an updated resume to the host business supervisor.
  7. Once you have met with the organization's contact person, you will be responsible for informing the Coordinator of the outcome of the meeting so that the information bank can be updated.
  8. The Coordinator will approve the internship for BA 409 credit.
