Emeritus Professor Dennis Powers joined the faculty of the SOU School of Business in the Fall of 1995. Prior to joining the faculty, Dennis Powers practiced business law as a sole practitioner for fifteen years. At the same time, he formed several small businesses, including ones in the areas of import/export, computerized legal forms, entertainment, and syndications. Prior to starting up his law practice, he was the Vice President and Executive Vice President of two real estate development companies and held executive positions with two others.

Professor Powers earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Economics with a minor in mathematics, from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado in 1964. He earned his Juris Doctorate degree in law from the University of Denver Law School, Denver, Colorado, in 1967. In 1969, he was awarded a MBA degree in business management from the Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts .

Dennis Powers is the author of ten books, including the Business and Real Estate Power of Attorney form series, Legal Street Smarts (1994), Beating the Tough Times (1995), Legal Expense Defense (1995), The Office Romance (1998), The Internet Legal Guide (2001), The Raging Sea (2005) and Treasure Ship: The Legend and Legacy of the S.S. Brother Jonathan (2006). He is a member of the Colorado, California, and Oregon State Bar Associations.

Professor Powers lives in Ashland, Oregon, with his wife and co-adventurer, Judy. Together, they have traveled to over sixty (60) foreign countries, ranging from Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia to India, Panama, Nepal, Costa Rica, and Belize. And more are on the horizon.
