Emeritus Professor Dr. Carol R. Nemec Wirt has been an educator at SOU since Fall term of 1996, teaching in the Accounting and Finance areas. She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration in Finance from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a Masters of Business Administration with an Accounting Concentration from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and a Bachelor of Sciences from the Illinois Institute of Technology in the Sciences. Her research includes eight published papers and many papers under review at journals or in the working papers stage. Her on-going research is primarily in the area of business and finance dealing with corporate governance, capital structure, and financial institutions. Current research is focused on CEO succession and gender mix of boards of directors. She has presented her work at conferences both nationally and internationally.
Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Nemec worked in the corporate sector and owned and operated small business construction firms and financial services practices. She taught finance and accounting at the university and community college levels as an adjunct for many years before entering the ranks of permanent university faculty.
Dr. Nemec has served on various community boards in Illinois, Colorado, and Oregon. She has served two terms as a Community Board Member on the Tudor Guild Board of Directors, the Citizens' Audit Committee for the City of Ashland and as a Tree Angel for the Providence Hospital Festival of Trees. She continues to provide seminars and presentations for various financial-oriented organizations.
