Senior Instructor John Kinard has taught a variety of classes at the SOU School of Business, primarily in Marketing and Small Business Management, since arriving in Ashland from Southern California in 1991.
John received his undergraduate degree from Occidental College (where the late SOU professor Terry Gaston was his freshman college roommate). After graduation from Oxy and a stint in the Army, John (and Amy) traveled East for graduate work at Harvard Business School. John's areas of concentration were small business management and new ventures.
After completion of MBA work, John and Amy returned to California and began more conventional married life in Santa Barbara where John took a management job with a family held small business. John left this position to accompany Amy to the University of Denver for her graduate studies in librarianship in the late 70's. John subsequently held a number of ownership/management positions with several different manufacturing companies during a 20 year career in private business. After receiving a master's degree in teaching from SOU in 2000, John taught high risk students in alternative secondary school settings for four years, returning to SOU School of Business to teach full time for the Fall term, 2005.
John is a devoted fly fisherman, skier (having taught skiing at Mt. Ashland for two years) and general sports enthusiast.
