During the 25 years prior to joining Southern Oregon University, Jon held executive positions in various functional areas with Beckman Instruments, Inc., including new product development, new product and market planning, worldwide consumable product development and market planning, as well as applications research. In addition to his experience at Beckman, Jon has been involved with the establishment of several small businesses and has consulted with high tech entrepreneurs on new venture startups.
Jon holds the following academic degrees: MBA from Pepperdine University, MS in Taxation from Golden Gate University, MS in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from San Jose State University, and BS in Chemistry (math minor) from San Jose State University. Prior to joining Beckman Instruments he taught chemistry at San Jose State University and San Jose Community College. Jon’s current research and teaching interests include strategic management, new product development strategy, business ethics, management principles, and organizational behavior.
Jon is active with campus governance. He has served as the SOU Faculty Athletic Representative, Chair of the Faculty Senate, and has served on various campus committees, including several search committees. He is an executive board member of the Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society.
Jon lives in Ashland with his wife and best friend, JoAnn. They have two adult children and three grandchildren living in California. At home he has herds of deer and an occasional bobcat or cougar to keep life exciting. He and his wife enjoy the rural life, especially gardening and relaxing in the sun beside the pond. Jon and his wife are active in several cultural activities in the Rogue Valley. He is currently a board member with the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon. Jon values the collegial environment of SOU. Being able to work with other faculty and staff members that have the same desire to prepare students for life after college is exciting and rewarding. His pursuit of excellence relative to the classroom as well as helping others to manage activities on campus has been a high point of his career.
