Associate Professor Jon Harbaugh joined the management faculty of the School of Business in 1995. During the 25 years prior to joining Southern Oregon University, Jon held executive positions in various functional areas with Beckman Instruments, Inc., including New Product Development, New Product and Market Planning, Worldwide Consumable Product Development and Market Planning, and Applications Research. In addition to his experience at Beckman, Jon has been involved with the establishment of several small businesses and has consulted with high tech entrepreneurs on new venture startups.
Jon holds the following academic degrees: MBA from Pepperdine University, MS in Taxation from Golden Gate University, MS in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from San Jose State University, and BS in Chemistry (math minor) from San Jose State University. Prior to joining Beckman Instruments he taught chemistry at San Jose State University and San Jose Community College. Jon’s current research and teaching interests include strategic management, new product development strategy, business ethics, principles of management, and organizational behavior.
Jon is active with campus governance. He has served as the SOU Faculty Athletic Representative, Member and Chair of the Faculty Senate, as well as serving on various campus committees, including several personnel search committees, the Hannon Library Dedication Committee, the Schneider Museum Study Group, the University Studies Search Committee, and as a member and officer of the Chamber Music Concerts Board of Directors.
Jon lives in Ashland with his wife and best friend, JoAnn. They have two adult children and three grandchildren living in California. At home he has herds of deer and an occasional bobcat or cougar to keep life exciting. He and his wife enjoy the rural life, especially summer gardening and winter snow. Jon and his wife are active in several cultural activities in the Rogue Valley. Jon values the collegial environment of SOU. Being able to to work with other faculty and staff members that have the same desire to prepare students for life after college is exciting and rewarding. His pursuit of excellence relative to the classroom as well as helping others to manage activities on campus has been a high point of his career.
