Graduate Certificate in Management of Aging Services

The Certificate in Management of Aging Services (MAS) prepares individuals for management roles in a variety of businesses serving an older adult population.The program allows individuals already possessing a Bachelor’s degree to gain knowledge about business management needs within the broad growing field of Aging Services. Coursework develops the business knowledge and experience necessary to thoughtfully design and/or provide needed and wanted goods and services to aging adults.

This specialization acknowledges changing demographics in the United States and around the world. As our populations age, there is an increasing demand for innovative and economically viable business models. Areas of focus in the certificate curriculum include senior housing, technology innovations related to older adult life enrichment, financial services, nonprofit agency services, home-based services, and entrepreneurial opportunities. This certificate is awarded to students who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree. The program is offered online in order to promote flexibility and national participation.

Undergraduate students may specialize in this field through the MAS option.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In general terms, The primary goal of this program is to prepare individuals to lead businesses dedicated to creating and enhancing the quality of life of older adults. The specific objectives of the program are to:

  1. Provide individuals with a broad understanding of the needs and opportunities within the aging services field.
  2. Prepare individuals to serve older adults as a target population in ethical, fiscally sound, innovative, and meaningful ways.
  3. Develop leadership in the areas of education and research as it pertains to preparing individuals to deliver innovative products and services to older adults.
  4. Raise awareness and stimulate thought about the many financial, healthcare, and service needs facing our aging society.

Program Curriculum

Certificate curriculum provides practical experience in the operation, marketing, financial management, development, construction, human resources, technology applications, leadership, and management of organizations in the aging services industry. The MAS Certificate requires the completion of 36 credit hours of coursework consisting of seven required courses, two of the three MAS elective courses, and 10 elective credits in a focus area approved by the Coordinator.

It is also possible to earn the Certificate in conjunction with a Master in Management degree. Sample course plans attached here detail the integration of the two programs. For course descriptions of the MAS core and elective offerings, follow this link.
