Environmental Education
The Master of Science degree at SOU is an intensive two-year field-oriented program that takes advantage of the unique biological diversity of Southern Oregon. Students gain an understanding of biological principles, themes, and issues as well as become proficient both at interpreting natural phenomena and effectively educating members of our society.
Core coursework is offered through the Biology department, with additional courses required from other disciplines for a truly interdisciplinary degree. Students may also work to achieve an additional certificate in Non-Profit Management through our School of Business.
Students have the opportunity to participate in practicum opportunities with a wide range of environmental education organizations. These organizations are represented by the Regional Environmental Education Leaders (REEL), a formal group of environmental educators that offer support and opportunities in a variety of settings. SOU students and faculty have worked with REEL to contribute to high quality environmental education opportunities for all audiences in southern Oregon.

Environmental Education (EE) students will be able to participate in two new partnerships that SOU has recently established:
- The Deer Creek Center for Research and Education (DCC) is a field station recently acquired in partnership with the Siskiyou Field Institute. It is located in the Illinois Valley, halfway between the SOU campus and the coast. We anticipate increasing our coursework offerings at DCC, and creating a diversity of environmental education opportunities at the site.
- SOU is integrally involved with the Science and Learning Center at Crater Lake National Park. Through this partnership, there are opportunities for students to be involved in planning and implementing environmental education programs in one of the most beautiful national parks in the country!
