The Genus Blepharostoma

Blepharostoma trichophylla (L.) Dum.

A primatively simple leafy liverwort in the family, Blepharostomaceae,with phylogenetic affinities to Herbertus and Ptilidium, (according to Schuster, Vol. I, pg 722).  The antipodal genus, Archeophylla, is thought to be the closest living sister lineage.
 
 

The branches in these photographs are about 1.0 mm wide (measured from leaf tips).
