An accomplished researcher of raptor ecology and bird song, Dr. Janes has been a part of the EE program since 1992.  As a former middle school science teacher and environmental educator with a penchant for field studies, Dr. Janes offers a wealth of experience in outdoor and classroom science education.  His favorite fieldtrip destinations are the rangelands, rivers and mountains of Eastern Oregon, an area he has been known to call his “spiritual homeland.”  Dr. Janes is pictured at left doing what he loves best, guiding eager students through the subtleties of avian language and identification near the Pacific Crest Trail.
