Wilderness Education Training

This seminar will provide an orientation to wilderness education and establish a foundation of wilderness education principles and practices for Environmental Education students who choose to develop their careers in ways that include wilderness education. The seminar will meet two hours weekly.  Two weekend wilderness field trips will also be scheduled.  2 credits. Fall Term 2002. [CRN 2705].

As a practical follow-up to the Wilderness Education Training seminar, the EE program at SOU will host a NOLS Wilderness Medicine InstituteWilderness First Responder course, December 13-22. This intensive 80-hour certification is designed specifically for outdoor professionals and provides students with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision making abilities.
