Thermophilic CyanobacteriaMickey Springs Sample #8
Mickey Springs sample #8 was collected from the outflow channel of a glorie hole (at approx. 100 C). The mat was growing in the 50-70 C range. The mat includes orange to red surficial layer as well as a dark green filamentous growth in patches.

Short (<30 cell) filaments bundled to form strands of an Anabaena-like cyanobacterium. Imaged at 1000x oil, phase-2.

Very small filament, approximately .5 mm in diameter. Diatoms were seen rarely. The diatom in this image is 7 mm wide. Imaged at 1000x oil, phase-2.
