Joshua Danielson

 ASSOU President

Major: Business Administration with a focus in Management

Minor: Outdoor Adventure Leadership

Class: Senior

About Me:

I was born in Long Beach California and raised in Portland Oregon. I have a brother and two sisters. My youngest sister a freshman at Valley Catholic High Schoolwas also just nominated as Freshman Class President. I guess it runs in the family. I am very excited you have nominated me as your president and I will do everything in my power to make sure the student body voice is heard.

I ran for President with Robert Cochran because I have a passion for building organizations into successful operations. I have a passion for student rights and making sure our voice is heard. ASSOU has spectacular leadership this year and have already accomplished so much. Some of the things ASSOU has been working on this year is helping students get health insurance. ASSOU advocated to provide student with healthcare at a subsidized cost. We are about to have our newly written Constitution voted on by the student body. The newly written constitution doesn't contradict itself and helps ASSOU be the advocacy group it is. ASSOU has registered 1018 students to vote on SOU's campus and students statewide have registered over 50,000. ASSOU has hosted a plethora of events for the student body including a candidate forum where Peter Buckley cam and spoke to our campus, Rock the Vote Ballot measure presentation and an upcoming intellectual event called AweTalks. ASSOU has launched its new website and Facebook page and has already seen huge interest. In the winter term ASSOU is launching a 10 - 15 personinternship program. ASSOU is now gearing up for the legislative session where we will be taking students to Salem to lobby our legislatures.

It is kind of a funny story of why I choose SOU. My family and friends thought I would never go to college. My sister, an Alumni of SOU sent me an email that said I could raft and fish and get a degree. I read the email and thought, "hell ya, I can go to school and hike and fish and get a degree, where do I sign up." After I attended the first couple of years at Portland Community College I realized I could actually go to school and succeed. I starting falling in love with learning and getting involved in things were I could make a difference. I finished Portland Community College with a 4.00 GPA. I started attending SOU in the fall of 2010 seeking a business degree. Now I am the Student Body President getting ready to apply to Stanford, Willamette, and Harvard. "Think it, believe it, become it!"
