Sean Ewing

 Director of Technology

Major: Computer Programming Software

Class: Senior

About Me:

My name is Sean Ewing, I have always been a part of leadership activities growing up. I was born and raised in Southern Oregon in an unconventional family of 5 as the youngest child. I have one biological brother who is a father of 3, and one biological sister who is a mother of two. I will be the only individual in my family who will obtain a Bachelors degree, but I do not plan on stopping there. It is my eventual goal to obtain a Doctorate in Computer Science, although that goal will have to be taken in steps.

Growing up in the Illinois Valley, I was a very active child always outside playing sports or socializing with friends. Having not a lot to do out in that area, I found myself getting involved with different programs including College Dreams, S.M.I.L.E (Science Math Investigative Learning Experience), Drama Club, etc. This trend of getting involved continued throughout all of my education and into College.

At Rogue Community College, I got involved by applying and getting hired into ASGRCC the student government on campus. It was there that I got involved in the cycle of a college. Learning about how all of the pieces of an institution comes together, is what got me deeply involved. This valuable learning experience was something that I continue to use today doing my job here as your Director of Technology.

I originally wanted to come to SOU because the love of my life was attending here, and they had a great hands on program for my field. I have not regretted this decision since. Here at SOU my instructors and fellow peers have helped ready me for a life and a job in the Software Engineering field. Without this valuable experience and help, I don't think that I would be where I am with the opportunities that have laying in front of me.

I originally wanted to get involved with ASSOU because of my prior experience in this area both as a prior Student Government member, and because of my involvement in leadership groups throughout my educational career. When I received notification that a position had been created to take care of the technical aspect of ASSOU, I jumped all over it. Feeling as though this would be a great supplement to my education as a Software Engineer, and where I could best apply my talents to help my fellow peers (YOU!) here at Southern Oregon University, I applied.

My goal here at ASSOU is to help provide an easy avenue for students to get involved on campus, for easy distribution so that all students are informed, and reducing the amount of physical waste we as an organization by converting to an almost purely digital organization. I would love for the campus community to come together as almost a seamless entity where everyone is in the know about what is happening on campus.
