ASSOU term 2013 - 2014
Major: Business Management
Minor: Environmental Studies
Hi my name is Shaun Franks, I'm a husband, father, student, activist, brother, employee, intern, son, etc. I'm from Fullerton, CA; before coming to SOU I backpacked across the John Muir Trail. I'm 2013- 2014 ASSOU Director of Community Relations. I work at the SOU Foundation raising money for student scholarships. I'm an intern at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival working with the Green Task Force on sustainability initiatives. I'm currently the president of SOU Net Impact a green business club. I love networking and meeting new passionate people; I'm looking forward to creating lasting connections with the community.
I'm very passionate about sustainability and I'm currently working with students, faculty, and staff around campus on various projects including divestment of fossil fuels and establishing a sustainability center that would grow organic food for the SOU community (students, faculty, SOU Dining). In 2011-2012 I was the Director of Sustainability for ASSOU and helped establish the green fund that charges every student less than $15 to fund sustainability projects.
I'm working on my BA in Management, minor in Environmental Studies, and the Sustainable Leadership Certificate. I was able to attend school in Germany Summer 2011 at Hochschule Harz in Wernigerode to study Renewable Energy: Alternatives and Best Practices. I hope to become an entrepreneur and establish a green energy company here in the US.
