Greer Markle teaches a full range of art history courses while specializing in modern art and the social history of art. He joined the SOU faculty in 1986, appointed to both the Department of Art and Art History and the Schneider Museum of Art, where he served as the founding director until 1999. Following his position with the museum, Dr. Markle turned his attention exclusively to academics. His current research focuses on art and politics. He has published and presented academic papers on Diego Rivera and his association with the Russian avant-garde, and he is currently at work on an article exploring the ways in which the ideas of Manifest Destiny are embedded in nineteenth century American art.
