Cody Bustamante teaches painting and drawing classes and is a thesis and capstone advisor. Students taking Professor Bustamante’s classes can expect a high degree of personalized instruction. Along with learning the techniques and strategies of the discipline, students are challenged to grow as individuals. Bustamante believes that, more than just making objects, art offers an exciting opportunity to explore the world with new eyes, tools, and insights. “I want students to be able to make art that exemplifies their passions and excitement,” he says. “And for them to be able to apply those skills to whatever careers their life paths may lead them through.”

Professor Bustamante’s artwork spans drawing, painting, and sculpture. The subject of his work brings together his interests in various branches of the arts and sciences. He is particularly interested in exploring the ways in which different cultures have attempted to explain things they don’t understand and how they have interpreted natural phenomena. Bustamante incorporates his interest in science, engineering, and historical cosmologies into an experimental framework of aesthetic preferences, born of his love for artistic production throughout different eras and around the world.
