  • How do I get to Southern Oregon University?
Directions to SOU and transportation options are available by clicking here.
  • How do I become an Oregon resident for tuition purposes?
Residency information is available in this Oregon University System publication.
  • Do I have to pay out-of-state tuition if I have not lived in Oregon for one year?
If you are attending the University full time and/or seeking a degree, the answer is, "Yes," you do have to pay out-of-state tuition. Refer to the SOU General Catalog for a complete description of residency requirements. If you are attending as a part-time admitted or as a non-admitted student (students taking 8 credits or fewer), then the answer is "No," you would pay resident tuition. However, as an incoming freshman from out of state, you may qualify for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship which reduce your out-of-state tuition to 150% of resident tuition. Check out the Western Undergraduate Exchange web page to see if you qualify for WUE.
  • How many credits do I need to take to get financial aid? What financial aid and/or scholarships are available?
You must be an admitted student to receive financial aid. You may qualify for federal financial aid and some scholarships if you are attending as a part-time student (students taking fewer than 12 credits). Your financial aid will be adjusted according to the number of credit hours you are registered for. Information about scholarships and financial aid availability can be accessed on Financial Aid web page. Check out the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship web page to see if you qualify.
  • When can I register for classes?
New admitted Fall freshmen should participate in one of the SOU Early Registration Programs held in late June and July. (Newly admitted students living in Hawaii may participate in the SOU Hawaii Early Registration Program in Honolulu during spring each year. Watch the Hawaii Regional Page for the dates and more information.)  Once you are advised for your first term of classes, the dates to register for future terms are dependent upon your current college credit standing and what term you are registering for. To find out more information you can contact Admissions at (541) 552-6411 or the Student ACCESS Center (541) 552-6213.
  • What is the housing situation like at SOU?
Our On-campus housing consists of 4 different complexes for a total of 13 halls and 24 quad complexes. For off-campus housing we have the Old Mill Village which is for married or divorced students, and students with children. Additional information can be found on the SOU Housing web page.
