SOU has always been popular with prospective students from Northern California.  Situated at the elevation of 2000 feet in the cradle of the Siskiyou and Cascade Mountain ranges, we offer a fresh, outdoor mountain climate together with the stimulation of a first rate liberal arts university and culturally dynamic town. Winter sports abound on nearby 7,500 foot Mt. Ashland, a half hour away from campus, and yet the climate is moderate (more like California!) compared to other locations in the Pacific Northwest with much less rainfall per year.  Located only 6 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area, you're not far from home!

Students from California may be eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship Program - which saves you thousands of dollars a year in tuition!

Our students are successful.  Thousands of SOU alumni throughout the world are thriving as civic and business leaders, educators, doctors, scientists, attorneys, and creative visionaries.  When our students and alumni talk about SOU, many say what they value in the education they received here is their relationships with professors who became their advisors and mentors.  You won't be a number at SOU.  Click here to see our School and College Fair Visit Calendar for Northern California and find out when we might be visiting you!

California-SOU Exchange Program

Opportunities for our neighbors in northern California include exchange programs through College of the Redwoods, College of the Sisikyous and Shasta College. Students who have attended these schools may qualify for the exchange program which permits students to pay resident tuition rates while attending SOU. The exchange requirements are different for each school:

  • College of the Siskiyous: You must complete 30 transferable semester credits (45 quarter credits) at College of the Siskiyous and meet the SOU admission standards.
  • College of the Redwoods: You must complete 60 transferable semester credits (90 quarter credits) at College of the Redwoods and meet the SOU admission standards.
  • Shasta College: You must complete 30 transferable semester credits (45 quarter credits) at Shasta College and meet the SOU admission standards.
  • See the California/SOU Exchange web page for more details.

Students on the California/SOU Exchange Program are not eligible for the WUE Scholarship Program.
