- Are internships available?
Most departments offer practicum or internship credit. You should contact the practicum coordinator of the department you are majoring in for more information about how to attain such credit.
- Do you have special programs for graduate students who are working adults or adults who cannot pursue a degree at the normal pace or schedule?
Yes. Both the School of Business and School of Education have cohort programs. The School of Business has an MBA cohort program available through the Medford SOU campus that allows students to study for their MBA on Saturdays. The School of Education has a cohort MAT (Masters of Arts in Teaching) that allows students to spread their graduate study over a two year period instead of the usual one year full time study.
- Where do current students park and how much does it cost?
SOU has several campus parking lots at various points on the campus. To park in these lots you are required to have a parking sticker. More information is available through Business Services (541)552-6311 or by clicking here. You can also download a parking map.
- Do you have on and off campus employment?
Yes, SOU offers work study jobs and positions for students without work study. SOU employment information is available through CareerLinks through the Career Development Services Office. CareerLinks provides a single location for any kind of employment needs students have while enrolled at SOU; for work-study and non-work-study positions, internships, off-campus employment during the academic year and through the summer, as well as career employment within the area or across the country and internationally as they near their graduation.
- Where can I buy my books?
The SOU Bookstore stocks all required and recommended textbooks and supplies for classes. New and used textbooks are discounted 5 percent for SOU students. In addition, the Bookstore carries general merchandise such as computer software/supplies, general reading and reference books, classroom and studio supplies, Raider active wear, imprinted souvenir and gift items, backpacks, stationery, greeting cards, and health and beauty aids. The Medford campus has a bookstore that's open during the first seven days of the term. The hours are posted at the campus before the term begins. After the second week, if you need to return books, you must do so at the Ashland campus. The Bookstore in Ashland will take orders over the phone and mail the books to you (adding a shipping fee), if you are unable to make it to either the Medford or Ashland campus during the open hours.
- What is the Ashland community and the Southern Oregon region like?
Region: The town of Ashland, Oregon
is a community of approximately 23,000 people located in Southern
Oregon at the elevation of nearly 2000 feet. On the border with
California, Ashland enjoys a moderate climate like California with less
rainfall per year than other locations in the Pacific Northwest.
Recreation:
Ashland is located in a dynamically beautiful natural region with
Crater Lake about 2 hours away, Mt. Shasta about an hour away, and an
abundance of rivers and mountains where winter sports abound as well as
world-class rafting and fishing. In a September 2003 article, Outside magazine rated SOU 20th in a list of the best places to study offering an abundance of recreational opportunities.
Culture:
Ashland is also in the center of an active cultural region being home
to the world renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Schneider Museum
of Art, and the Ashland Independent Film Festival. The Britt Music
Festival in historic Jacksonville is only 30 minutes away.
