Freshmen Scholarships

Southern Oregon University has many merit-based and need-based scholarships available! To be considered for scholarships at SOU, follow these steps:

  • Apply for admission to SOU
    Upon admission, you will automatically be considered for Laurels, Churchill, Provost or WUE. 
  • Submit the FAFSA- Free Application for Federal Student Aid- as soon as possible after January 1st.
    Some SOSA scholarships require a FAFSA on file for scholarship consideration.
  • Submit the SOSA- Southern Online Scholarship Application- by March 1st. Through the SOSA you will be considered for additional merit and need-based scholarships, including the Diversity Scholarship (listed below).

Laurels Scholarship*†
$2,700/yr

Laurels recipients average the following:
- Between a 3.64 and 4.0 GPA
- Between an 1140 and 1260 SAT score, or an average composite ACT score of 26. 
Eligibility is based on a sliding scale.

Churchill Scholarship*†
$2,400/yr
Churchill recipients average the following:

- Between a 3.48 and 3.85 GPA
- Between a 1010 and 1150 SAT score, or an 
average composite ACT score of 25. 
Eligibility is based on a sliding scale. 

Provost Scholarship*†
$2,100/yr
Provost recipients average the following:

- Between a 3.25 and 3.65 GPA
- Between a 950 and 1100 SAT score, or an 
average composite ACT score of 23. 
Eligibility is based on a sliding scale.

Southern Online Scholarship Application
(SOSA)
The SOSA is a general scholarship application for 

over 80 scholarships. Available to all incoming 
and current SOU students. Must be admitted to SOU to apply. 
Deadline- March 1st. 

Diversity Scholarship
Up to $5,000/yr
Awarded to students whose ethnic and cultural backgrounds and/or experiences contribute to the University’s diversity. 

Must complete the SOSA.

Departmental Scholarships
Several departments operate their own scholarship programs. To learn more about these opportunities, visit their websites and contact the departments directly-

In addition to scholarship opportunities, incoming freshman are also eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition rate!


Southern Online Scholarship Application
(SOSA)
The SOSA is a general scholarship application for over 80 scholarships. Available to all incoming and current SOU students. Must be admitted to SOU to apply. 
Deadline- March 1st.

Diversity Scholarship
Up to $5,000/yr
Awarded to students whose ethnic and cultural backgrounds and/or experiences contribute to the University’s diversity. 

Must complete the SOSA.

Renewable. Automatic consideration upon admission to the university. 


† = Recipients must maintain a 3.0 SOU GPA and remain enrolled in full time coursework. 


Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for full scholarship consideration. Some scholarships are mutually exclusive.
