Most Commonly Asked Transfer Student Questions

What are the requirements for transfer students?
To transfer to SOU, students must have earned 36 quarter credits (24 semester credits) of transfer-level credit from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2.25 grade point average (2.0 for students who have hearned an AA) and meet the two year language requirement (if they graduated from high school during or after 1997). Applicants with fewer than 36 quarter transfer credits must also meet freshmen requirements in addition to meeting the 2.25 cumulative GPA for transfer work completed.

How can I determine which classes from my college will transfer?
If you are transferring credit from an Oregon Community College, you can see exactly which classes will articulate to SOU course by course. Please see the Transfer Equivalencies page for course equivalencies. If you are transferring classes from a community college or from a four year university that is not listed on the transfer page, you can talk with an academic advisor about how your credits will transfer. Transfer advisors are available in Ashland at the Academic Support Programs (541-552-6213) or at the Higher Education Center in Medford (541-552-8100).

Do I have to take the same class at the upper division level that I took for lower division credit?
Most lower division courses will not satisfy the upper division level requirements. Some departments have exceptions. For example, if you take Business Law at a community college, it will count toward your upper division level core business requirements (BA 370). Talk to your academic advisor about any possibilities.

Can I complete my AA/AS degree at SOU?
SOU is a four year institution therefore we do not offer an AA/AS completion program. We do offer Bachelor Degree completion programs in addition to our regular degree programs. Please click here to learn more about degree completion.

Do I have to be admitted to SOU to just take one course?
No, you can register for up to 8 credits as a non-admitted student. You just need to fill out the non-admitted student form.

Where do I go to tour and/or visit campus? Where do I park?
The Office of Admissions will provide you with a free parking pass which you may use in the lot directly off Siskiyou Boulevard next to the Britt Building. If you arrange the tour in advance, you will receive a letter with instructions and a map. You can also download a parking map.

Are there Preview Days especially for transfer students?
