Konnie May
Scenic Painting for Master of Theatre Studies
Konnie May has been dedicated to the scenic arts for over two decades. She has worked as a freelance Scenic Artist at the Oregon Shakespearean Festival since 1987, as well as theaters in San Francisco, Seattle, Virginia, and Michigan. She has extensive knowledge of the materials and techniques used to create visuals for theater, film and video. Whether working in scenic paints, artist colors, oils, dyes, or digitally, she is primarily a colorist with an eye for exacting reproduction, continuity, and beauty.
In 1990 she started a business dying fabrics and worked freelance as a professional fashion fabric dyer, until opening her own scenic studio. Jefferson Scenic specializes in backdrops for the theater and is currently in operation in Ashland, Oregon.
She studied scenic painting and design at SOU (then Southern Oregon State College) under Craig Hudson from 1985 to 1988, and holds an AA degree in Costuming from Highline Community College.
Konnie May is a guest instructor in scenic painting for the Master of Theatre Studies.
