Jim Giancarlo
Jim Giancarlo is Artistic Director of Ashland's renowned Oregon Cabaret Theatre and part of the SOU theatre faculty where he has taught since 1990. His classes at SOU include Musical Theatre Dance, Musical Theatre History, Auditioning for Musical Theatre and Musical Theatre Workshop; and provided the foundation for the minor in Musical Theatre. For SOU Theatre Arts he has directed Sweet Charity and has choreographed recent productions of Urinetown, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Three Penny Opera and Cabaret. At the Oregon Cabaret Theatre he has directed and/or choreographed 70 productions over the past 22 seasons, including productions of Smokey Joe's Cafe, Five Guys Named Moe, Tapestry, Pageant, My Way, Five Course Love and Dames At Sea. He has also written seven original musicals, including EAT-TV: the Gourmet Musical, Snow White & Several Dweebs, Cindy Rella, and Full Circle. Jim was a company member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for six seasons and has continued to choreograph OSF productions over the years. In addition, Jim has directed and/or choreographed at Portland Rep, Seattle Civic Light Opera, PCPA Theatrefest, Rogue Music Theatre and Idaho Shakespeare Festival. He holds a BFA from State University of New York College at Buffalo.
In 2008 Jim taught the elective course Choreography for Musical Theatre and in 2012 Choreography for Musicals.
