Southern Oregon University

2014 Elective Course

July 28-August 1, 2014

Ashland, Oregon

This class will help students develop skills and confidence to generate useful patterns from which to make costume pieces for their productions. We will begin with how to choose commercial patterns for greatest versatility and students will learn to modify and adapt these patterns to make costumes that will fit a variety of actors. We will then develop original patterns based on simple designs that the students will adjust and modify for their own purposes. The class will culminate in a costume piece built from these patterns.

The class is limited to 16 students. Most materials will be provided, but students may wish to bring two to four yards of personal fabric to make the final project.
