Tutors on this list are self-employed and normally charge $15-20 per hour.  The individual hiring the tutor pays the tutor directly; Southern Oregon University is not responsible for any charges incurred under these arrangements.  The SOU Mathematics Department monitors and supplies this list as a service to the community at large, but cannot guarantee the quality of service.  If you would like to provide feedback on one or more of these tutors or if you'd like to be considered for addition to this list, please contact Kemble Yates, Chair of the Mathematics Department, at 552-6578 or kyates@sou.edu.  You may also contact Anita Sartain, ACCESS Center math tutoring coordinator, at 552-6213, sacrecept@sou.edu, or sartaina@sou.edu

Degree: (2004) B.S. in Applied Mathematics at CSU Chico, grade point: 3.9

My rates and availability are both flexible ~ I will usually charge $20/hour, but I offer give discounts for students with financial difficulties.  I am available any night or day of the week, and I am willing to drive to a student’s home – my home is available as well.  I have been tutoring for about 20 years now, including more than 10 at the college level.  Most recently, I was tutoring for the Math Dept. at CSU Chico (Chair: Margaret Owens) and also at Butte College (community college near Chico).  My students have often said that I am very patient and that I explain things in ways that they can clearly understand.  I believe that students, especially math students, need confidence and encouragement.   I do my best to listen carefully, so that I can understand what the problem may be, or where any confusion may have originated.  I am very good in helping students with Algebra and Basic Math, but I can also tutor in Calculus and Statistics.  Pre-Calculus is no problem, but for Calculus students, I may need to brush up a bit.  For Advanced Calculus, however, I can be very helpful, especially with proofs.  The CSU Chico Math Department Chair was my instructor in Intro to Proofs, Advanced Calculus, and also Number Theory.  All of my grades in Math coursed at CSU Chico were A’s and A-‘s.  And, I would like to offer English tutoring, something I also enjoy.
