Premier Literacy Suite
This software suite is installed on all campus computers, expanding technology accessibility across our entire campus. You can find these programs in the Start menu under "Premier AT".
The suite includes the following tools:
- Universal Reader: Use it to read email, websites, word processing documents, etc. by selecting the text you want to read and clicking on the floating toolbar. By using the Talking Pointer, you can simply point to text, icons, etc. to have them read aloud.
- Ultimate Talking Dictionary: Comprehensive, unabridged dictionary of over 250,000 words, including slang, jargon, and historical names and places. Includes both synonyms and antonyms. With it, you can highlight a word in a body of text, press a key, and the Talking Dictionary will read the definition and a list of synonyms. Includes word searching capability.
- Talking Word Processor: Will read aloud to you what you are typing – great for proofreading! Also includes word prediction technology, which allows you to type just a couple of letters and then choose the word you want from a list. Has an integrated dictionary for quick definition lookups and a talking grammar checker.
- E-Text Reader: reads electronic text in txt, word, rtf, and html formats. You can search for specific sections to read (or re-read), highlight, bookmark, and add notes into the document. The summarize feature allows you to automatically create a summary of the document. The extract feature allows you to pull out the sections you’ve highlighted to a separate document for later review.
- Text to Audio: The program DSS uses to create audio books for students receiving alternate text in MP3 format! Allows you to convert any digital text into one of several standard audio formats. Includes bookmarking or time segmentation of audio and saves to CD or MP3 player.
- PDF Magic: can take almost any .pdf file and convert it to text or text and graphics. To make those lengthy .pdf files you refer to for research, use PDF magic first to convert it to text, and then E-Text Reader or Text to Audio, depending on your needs.
- Talking Calculator: does exactly what it says. Great for those who transpose numbers! It also shows your work, which you can then cut and paste in another document if needed.
