Request for Notetaker
It is the student's responsibility to submit a Notetaker Request at least 10 days prior to the first class. Later requests will be filled in the order in which they are received.
Notes may be supplied by any of the following methods:
- Blackboard notes supplied by instructor
- class notes supplied by a notetaker in the class
- class notes supplied by instructor
Steps DSS takes to find a notetaker:
If you have someone in your class in mind as a notetaker, please have that student sign up with DSS as soon as possible.
- After your request is received, DSS will email students on the class roster indicating a notetaker is needed for the class.
- If a notetaker is not found after 2 email requests, DSS will ask your professor to announce in class that a notetaker is needed.
- As soon as a notetaking volunteer is found, they sign a volunteer agreement and receive a quick training on the process. Your identity, unless you choose to reveal it, is kept confidential throughout this process.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Are notetakers paid? Yes. Notetakers who successfully complete a term of notetaking receive a $50 stipend per class in the form of an SOU Bookstore voucher.
- How will I receive my notes? You will receive photocopied notes in your folder here in the ACCESS Center. In some cases, you may receive them by email. Our Notetaking Coordinator will discuss this with you if this is an option.
- How soon will I receive my notes? We ask our notetakers to get notes to us within 24 hours of class.
- What if I have a problem? If the notes you are receiving are inadequate, illegible, or late, please email the Notetaking Coordinator as soon as possible, and absolutely before the end of the term.
- Do I still have to attend class? YES. Notetaking services are not a substitute for attending class. If you fail to attend class for a reason not related to your disability, your notetaking service may be interrupted or withdrawn.
