Accelerated Baccalaureate Program

Students on Library Steps

Save money and get a jump start on your life. Graduate in three years instead of four!

Do you already know what you want to do with your life? Have you already decided upon your college major? Would you like to graduate in three years instead of four, but still have time to participate in athletics, music, student government, study abroad programs or community service? If so, consider applying for our unique Accelerated Baccalaureate Program!

This unique program -- known fondly around campus as the "Acc Bacc" -- offers you the opportunity to customize your academic pursuits based on demonstrated strengths and personal goals. With an individualized reduction in the number of general education credits required to graduate, you will be able take normal course loads, have time to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities and still complete your college degree in just three years.

Acc Bacc students benefit from a number of different advantages:

  • A contract with SOU to complete course work in three years
  • Priority registration status
  • A reduction of 21-45 general education and elective credits (that's up to one full year)!
  • A normal course load of about 16 credits (four classes) per term
  • Time to work, play, study, volunteer and compete... time to live!
  • One less year of college and one more year of what YOU want to do
  • One less year of the expense of tuition, fees and books
  • One year earlier to grad school
  • One year in the job market before your peers
  • Upon graduation, a fully recognized bachelor's degree!

Each student is required to complete between 135 and 151 credits, depending upon the number of general education reductions granted. Your chosen major must be offered by a participating academic department. You may also choose to complete a minor or certificate program while pursuing your undergraduate degree to support your career goals. Your minor can be from any department on campus.
