STUDENTS TRAVEL GRANTS – AAAS, Pacific Division

STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS

In order to encourage the presentation of student scholarship at the annual meetings of the AAAS, Pacific Division, the Pacific Division is making available ten grants to pay for the room and board package at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy for students attending the 2008 meetings and presenting the results of their original research either orally or as posters. This package includes four nights of lodging (15 - 18 June) and ten meals (dinner Sunday; breakfast, lunch and the beach picnic Monday; breakfast Tuesday; breakfast, lunch and the Divisional Banquet Wednesday; breakfast and lunch Thursday).

To be eligible to receive a Student Travel Grant, the student must:

register in advance for the meeting

have an accepted abstract on file for the meeting

be eligible for a Student Award of Excellence at the meeting

Students may apply in advance of meeting all of the above criteria. However, only those meeting all of the above criteria may be awarded one of the ten available travel grants.

To Apply, send a letter of application via e-mail, fax or USPS that includes the following:

your name
your full mailing address
your preferred telephone number(s)
your preferred e-mail address
title of your presentation
section or program in which you are presenting (or are intending to present)
your travel plans, including dates and details of travel
a detailed budget for your travel to the meeting, showing all expected expenses
an explanation of your financial need, including all sources of income to pay for your travel to and stay at the meeting

APPLICATION DEADLINE is 1 May 2008.

Completed application materials must be received in the Pacific Division office no later than 1 May in order to be considered for a travel award.

Applicants will be notified of the results of their applications prior to the ending date for early meeting registration.

Awardees will receive a four night room and board package at no cost to them at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy, in a double room with a roommate. If the awardee doesn't already have a roommate, one will be assigned. Additional nights at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy must be paid for in advance by the awardee. Details are on the Housing Registration Form for the meeting.

If your financial need changes (e.g. you receive additional other grant money after sending your application to the Pacific Division), it is your responsibility to notify the Pacific Division immediately of this change in need if it reduces the amount of your need.
