Building Foundations for a Successful Future
Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Oregon University!
CAS, administratively created on July 1, 2007, is six months old and we continue an intense pace of change. We are still very much in our infancy but are establishing a solid foundation for our day to day functioning and growth. Bringing together the three Schools of Arts and Letters, Social Sciences, and Sciences has instilled a renewed sense of excitement, collaboration, and possibility for the faculty. We are intentionally exploring and creating our culture, and relearning that CAS is the core of the University.
This structure underscores SOU's mission to provide a strong base where students are encouraged to expand their multicultural and global perspectives; to increase their critical thinking, communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and leadership skills; and to grow in personal and physical well-being. Students are challenged to apply their knowledge in real-world situations through service-learning classes, practicum, and capstone classes. They are mentored in meaningful community engagement to use their skills effectively in the work place, to build respectful relationships, and to express themselves effectively.
