Admissions
Most Commonly Asked Questions from Non-Admitted and Returning Students
If I was previously admitted to SOU, but never attended classes, do I need to re-apply for admission?
That depends. If more than five quarters have passed since your original entry term, you will have to re-apply.
If I previously attended SOU as an admitted student but have been away for a length of time, do I need to re-apply for admission?
No. You may register for classes via MySOU or at the Enrollment Services Center on campus.
If I want to be a non-admitted student, how many courses can I take?
Non-admitted students can enroll in classes up to a limit of 8 credits. Non-admitted students are not eligible to earn a degree until they apply for admission to SOU. At that time all coursework taken as a non-admitted student will be counted toward the degree you wish to pursue.
Are non-admitted students eligible for financial aid?
No. Non-admitted students are not eligible for financial aid. However, once a non-admitted student applies for admission to SOU and is accepted, then the student is eligible for financial aid.
Where do I go to tour and/or visit campus? Where do I park?
The Office of Admissions will provide you with a free parking pass which you may use in the lot directly off Siskiyou Boulevard next to the Britt Hall. If you arrange the tour in advance, you will receive a letter with instructions and a map. You can also download a parking map.
When can I register for classes?
Non-admitted Fall students may register for classes as of August 20th.
Are internships available?
Most departments offer practicum or internship credit. You should contact the practicum coordinator of the department you are interested in for more information about how to attain such credit.
Do you have distance and/or online courses and programs?
Extended Campus Programs at Southern Oregon University serves the southwestern Oregon region with academic credit course work in the Master of Education Program, Continuing Professional Development for teachers, and a variety of upper division Criminology courses. Each year more people are taking advantage of Southern Oregon University's regional programs - completing degrees and taking classes via distance delivery technologies.
